How to Use Chat GPT for Content Creation

Everyone is chatting about Artificial Intelligence (AI) these days, especially ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), and they are looking at ways to incorporate it into their workflow for enhanced efficiency and increased output. It’s a marveling concept no doubt. However, with the numerous benefits come a few cautions as well. After all, technology is like humans in one way and that it is not foolproof. Now, with that being said, using AI to get your social media content rolling is actually very helpful and we are going to dive into how to make it work for you. The key to remember with AI is that it is used for “help” and not a “do it all” shortcut. You’re still going to have to put in the work and ensure your content is authentic.

What We're Talking About

What is ChatGPT?

Released in November 2022, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and Microsoft. Designed to function in a conversational way, ChatGPT answers questions in a matter of seconds and even stores chats for users to reference later. When it comes to social media content creation, ChatGPT is like a teammate, helping to fuel creativity.

ChatGPT does caution that sometimes the responses might be incorrect or even “nonsensical.” A few other limitations include a limited knowledge database for events after 2021 as well as the potential for generating harmful or biased content. For these reasons, depending on the content being sourced and used, it is imperative that users fact check content when necessary. For the focus of this article, we are going to explore the fun ways ChatGPT can up your content game.

How to Create Social Media Captions With ChatGPT

Having a moment of writer’s block and not feeling creative early on a Monday morning? Login to ChatGPT and ask for some help. Here’s an example of how it can help with caption writing:

You: Write me a social media caption for motivational monday

ChatGPT: New week, new opportunities! 💪 Let's kickstart this #MotivationalMonday with a positive mindset and unstoppable determination. You've got the power to turn your goals into reality. Go out there and make it happen! 🔥💼✨ #MondayMotivation #GoalCrusher

Look how it even throws in some emojis and hashtags! Now, what if the response isn’t really fitting for your profile? Since it operates like a conversation and not a search bar, you can simply ask for a revision like this:

You: Do you have something more specific to a coffee shop

ChatGPT: Rise and grind, coffee lovers! ☕ Mondays are better with a steaming cup of motivation in hand. Start your week fresh at [Coffee Shop Name] and fuel your dreams one sip at a time. Here's to a productive and caffeinated #MotivationalMonday! 🚀☕ #CoffeeCheers #MondayMood

How to Content Briefs With ChatGPT

ChatGPT can go beyond short-form content and help build out more detailed content such as content briefs. If you work with a team of writers and need to create content briefs for a variety of topics, using ChatGPT to help you plan out the article outline can save a lot of time and help streamline processes. By simply typing in, “Create a content brief for an article about…” you will receive an organized outline of information to work with. Here’s an abbreviated example of what ChatGPT gave me when I asked for a content brief for an article about peanut butter:

  • A sample title that was catchy and had a hook: “The Nutty Allure: Unpacking the Delicious World of Peanut Butter”
  • A suggested target audience to help the reader know who they are writing for.
  • A list of key points to include in the article such as an introduction, nutritional value, culinary uses, varieties, allergies and more.
  • Lastly, additional information was supplied such as suggested word count and the types of photos to source to use in the article.

How to Fact Check With ChatGPT

Something to consider with using ChatGPT for other tasks such as content research is that it doesn’t provide a list of sources for the information provided. It is not advised to simply copy and paste content without reading and verifying the content first. When ChatGPT was asked to provide a source for the content supplied, the response was:

“I don't have direct access to external sources or the internet to provide specific citations. The information I provide is based on the general knowledge and text data that I was trained on, which includes information up until my last knowledge update in September 2021.”

Takeaways

As this is a new technology, there are sure to be many developments along the way. Already since the launch less than a year ago, there is a newer, paid version of ChatGPT, GPT-4, which claims to make fewer mistakes and claims to be a bit more creative with things such as writing poetry. There was some talk about an even newer version GPT-5 being trained but Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO and co-founder said earlier this year that it was not happening, at least not for some time if at all.
