Demure

Stylishly Reserved

"See how I softly smile, very demure, very subtle."

The term "demure" has traditionally been used to describe someone who is reserved, modest, and often shy, particularly in their demeanor or appearance. The word has roots in Middle English, is derived from Old French, and has long been associated with a quiet elegance or understated charm. However, on TikTok, a new trend has emerged that plays with the concept of "demure" in a more modern, ironic, or even playful context.

The "very demure, very mindful" trend on TikTok was sparked by content creator Jools Lebron, where Jools exaggerated the idea of being "demure" as a way to critique and play with societal expectations, particularly around how women are often told to act in professional settings. As the trend spread, TikTokers began applying the "very demure, very mindful" phrase to various situations, including sorority rush events, swimming, and everyday activities. It became a way to highlight moments where one might be quietly confident or deliberately understated, often with an ironic twist.
